Quote of the Day -- "What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets." (Dracula, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night)

So as I sat here, bored today, I started thinking about why I do some of the things I do. I thought about why I argue for fun, why I'm as lazy and uncaring about certain things as I am, etc. The major thing I thought about today is....Why do I play so much vidya? Sure, everyone may have their own reasons, but what specifically makes ME want to play games so much?
The answer : Achievement. Bragging Rights. An Escape.
The first, the achievements. I'm not talking directly about Xbox 360 Achievements or anything, but the feeling of having done something, either big or small. Completing a game, taking the time to 100% it, or just raising a skill level after some time playing. It's all the same. I can sit there and mindlessly play something like Runescape for hours on end, because I feel like accomplishing after seeing my skills raised in levels or seeing the stack of gold I made today.
The second, bragging rights. I'm a gamer, and as such I seek out fellow gamers to talk to about games. Seems like a natural thing to do. Well, it's nice to be able to say that, "My best killstreak was 40-0 on COD: MW2. What's yours?" when you meet them and get into that kind of discussion, which will almost always come up when you play similar games. Some people just feel the need to be better than others at some things, or at least be able to stay on par. I guess I am just one of those kinds of people. I refuse to look at it in such a negative light most of the time. It's good to have some kind of drive to succeed, driven both by this point and the point I had made previously.
The third....escape. It has taken me several years to realize this fully and to accept it, but I most notably used video games to escape from my middle school and high school years. Sure I didn't have a horrible reason to escape, but to me...life gets boring way too often. So, why not disappear into a video game where I can have interesting adventures or kill some zombies etc? People use many things for an escape from daily life, so its not hard to imagine or see.
Now, these are just glancing views at some of the reasons I play video games, as I'm sure you can tell they aren't horribly detailed. Everyone has their own reasons for doing things, I just thought I'd write about mine today.
Go ahead and leave me comments about maybe why you play video games, or anything along the lines of the three ideas posted today. Or just criticism. Or just hi.
Until tomorrow~

Our dreams, and where we get them.
Quote of the Day -- “Be careful what you wear to bed at night, you never know who you'll meet in your dreams.”
My Face When of the Day -- http://myfacewhen.com/27
The topic of today's post, which is my first post of this blog, is dreams. We have them every night, even if you can't always remember them. They can consist of many different people and many different events, but they almost always relate to something in your thoughts.
...Which is what intrigues me the most. Haven't you ever had a dream in which your first thought after waking up is, "WHY THE HELL DID I DREAM OF THAT!?" I'm sure you have. I know it's happened to me several times on occasion.
Just recently I had one of these dreams. An old friend of mine visited me in a dream, but not in the way I really wanted. The dream put them in the state that me and everyone else I know sees them as, an upsetting waste of flesh and bone. They did things that are normal for them, but we try to forget about. I was a mess when I woke up to tell you the truth. But the thing of it all is, our minds are very good at seeing certain truths that we tend to ignore and pass over every day.
I had to question myself as to why I had this dream, and why it was the way it was. And I came to the answer that, I was trying to fool myself into thinking they had changed. A truth I didnt want to hear, but a truth none the less. It made me realize what my thoughts actually mean in certain situations and that maybe I should pay more attention to them.
Now, that was only the first part of this post, more specifically, the actual dreams part. The second part I would like to talk about would be what I like to call our "dreamscape". Many of us have had reoccurring themes in our dreams, or maybe even something as small as certain places or people in them, either constantly, or on a regular basis. They may have nothing to truly do with the dream at hand, but they find their way in regardless. It can go as far as even creating a place where you dream on a regular basis...
...Which is where I go to when I dream. Every dream for the past two months or so has taken place in this "place". As far as I know, it doesn't have a name, nor can it be found anywhere in particular besides my dreams. Yet, I could map it out for you if you gave me a pen and paper, and could even tell you the stores in the mall. A very interesting place indeed, and I get to visit it every night. My only qualm about this is that I don't actually have control over the place or what happens in it. I am not lucidly dreaming of this place, yet it exists every night in my thoughts and dreams. Maybe someday I will be able to name it and truly call it my own.
PHEW! That was a long post overall, lol. I hope that you guys didn't just skip over it all :/ So I will leave you with a question. What is your "Dreamscape", if you have one? Be sure to leave your answer in the comments below. Go ahead and comment anyways if you don't want to answer too!
